Children’s Institute is hosting a four-week Trauma and Resiliency Virtual Training in light of community and environmental trauma, where teachers, staff and administrators will have an opportunity to connect, practice self-care and learn current best practices for themselves and their students during this unprecedented time. Attendees will learn tangible tools to enhance well being while exploring strategies to strengthen relationships to students and the current learning environment.

Featured Trainer: Angela Smith, LCSW

Angela holds a Masters of Social Work degree from San Francisco State University and received her License in Clinical Social Work from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences in 2015. She has served as a clinician for ten years in community mental health and special education.

Week 2 – April 23 – Minding our Mental – Staying Present in a Changing World

Mindfulness has been defined as purposeful, attention to the present moment, without judgement of our thoughts or feelings. Studies have shown how mindfulness trainings can reduces stress and anxiety, and schools across our country are implementing Mindfulness-based Interventions (MBIs) in hopes of increasing student’s overall social-emotional learning and functioning. In this time of community and environmental chaos, it is critical we have knowledge of and access to tools which will help us most mind our mental. Please join us for our second Trauma and Resiliency Training, Minding our Mental- Staying Present in a Changing World. Sponsored by Children’s Institute and the Neighborhood Schools Initiative.

In this training you will:

  • Share purposeful time together to connect, practice and reflect on mindfulness practices for yourself and your students.
  • Learn the role mindfulness can play in improving the social, behavioral, and educational outcomes of yourself and your students.
  • Find and engage with new mindfulness techniques, practices, and activities that fit your personality and your students best

Logistics Info:

Participants should feel free to attend any/all of the trainings. Those who register will be emailed the Zoom link to participate 24 hours in advance of the training. Post training a quick survey will be emailed to all participants.
