Featured Presenter: Incredible Years Programs’ Peter S Loft, Jr. M.S.W.
Peter S Loft, Jr., MSW comes to us from the Incredible Years Programs in Seattle, Washington, an internationally known evidenced-based programs for parents, teachers, and young children, proven to reduce long-term risk factors for families and children. He is a certified trainer in the Classroom Dinosaur School Social Skills Program, small group treatment model of Dinosaur School Social Skills intervention for children with at-risk behaviors, Basic and Advanced Parenting Programs, and in Teacher Classroom Management Strategies.

About the Training

DINOSAUR CHILD EMOTION, SOCIAL SKILLS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING TRAINING FOR CHILDREN

This 3-day workshop will present in depth the child training program designed by Dr. Webster-Stratton to promote children’s non aggressive ways to solve common conflicts, appropriate classroom behaviors, and positive social skills with other children and adults. Content of this training program includes: how to teach children to understand feelings, problem-solve, regulate emotions, learn how to be friendly and how to talk with friends, and how to do their best in school. The intervention program is appropriate for use by clinicians/therapists with small groups of children with behavior problems (preschool through grade 3), either in mental health settings or in schools as “pull out” sessions.

At the end of the three day learning session. . .

  • Participants will be able to identify the six content areas covered in the Incredible Years Child Training curriculum.
  • Participants will learn to use puppets to model and practice social interactions with children.
  • Participants will learn to use video vignettes to present curriculum content to children.
  • Participants will learn to set up role plays to help children practice new skills.
  • Participants will learn to coach children’s play interactions with peers to support their social interactions.
  • Participants will learn to tailor the delivery of the program to meet the individual goals of children receiving the program.
  • Participants will learn and understand the “attention principle” and the implications for supporting children’s behavior.
  • Participants will learn how to identify and attend to children’s positive opposite behaviors.
  • Participants will learn to used planned ignoring for lower levels behaviors that are maintained by attention.
  • Participants will learn to select small group activities that fit children’s developmental levels.
  • Participants will learn to use academic and persistence coaching to support children during play and work time.
  • Participants will learn how to use puppets to present problem solving scenarios that are relevant to children in the Dinosaur school group.
  • Participants will learn how and when to coach dysregulated children to calm down.
  • Participants will learn how and when it is appropriate to give a Time Out to calm down.
  • Participants will learn how and when to use incentives to reinforce children’s positive behaviors.
  • Participants will learn how to write behavior plans to support individual children’s specific social and behavioral goals.
  • Participants will learn how and when to coach children in the midst of real peer conflict.
  • Participants will discuss ways to communicate Dinosaur School goals with parents and teachers.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY:
By registering for this training the attendee is liable for the registration fee, which is fully refundable up to January 17, 2020. Registration is transferrable prior to the start of the training. Once the training begins, fees are non-refundable/transferrable and no partial refunds will be given.
