Virtual – Law & Ethics: Clinical Work with Children, Teens and Families

The Ethics Codes, case law, and regulations for professional mental health and addiction services evolve routinely, but with the busy schedules most providers have, it can be difficult to keep up with these changes. The purpose of this course is to meet and exceed the requirements of regulatory organizations, assist mental health professionals in maintaining competence in this vital area, and better manage potential risks in practice. This review of key ethical and legal concepts will focus on improving ethical problem solving, conjoint treatments and work with minors, boundaries and privacy. The course meets and exceeds the Board of Psychology’s mandated ethics and law update requirement, and the Board of Behavioral Sciences 6 hour update requirement for LCSWs, MFTs and LPCCs, and will be taught at an intermediate level.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

 

Presented By: 

Pamela H. Harmell, PhD.

Dr. Pamela Harmell is a national lecturer specializing in legal and ethical issues in clinical practice. She is a Professor at the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology and has written extensively in professional publications on ethical practice and has formally studied law. She is the Past President of the Board of Psychology. Dr. Harmell is former Chair of the California State Ethics Committee and former Chair of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association Ethics Committee. She served on the Board of Directors of the California Psychological Association and is Past President of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association.

Location: Virtual – once you’re registered you’ll receive the Zoom link one business day prior to the training

Pending Approval – Continuing Education Credits: up to 6 credits available for PSY, MFT, and LCSW’s

APA: Children’s Institute, Inc. is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Children’s Institute, Inc. maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

The California Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) now recognizes APA continuing education credit for license renewal for LCSWs and MFTs.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY:

By registering for this training the agency is liable for the registration fee, which is refundable up to May 4, 2022 minus the ~6% Eventbrite charge.  Registration is transferrable prior to the start of the training.  Once the training begins, fees are non-refundable/transferrable and no partial refunds will be given.
