Description

Children’s Institute is hosting a four-week Trauma and Resiliency Virtual Training in light of community and environmental trauma, where teachers, staff and administrators will have an opportunity to connect, practice self-care and learn current best practices for themselves and their students during this unprecedented time. Attendees will learn tangible tools to enhance well being while exploring strategies to strengthen relationships to students and the current learning environment.

Featured Trainer: Angela Smith, LCSW

Angela holds a Masters of Social Work degree from San Francisco State University and received her License in Clinical Social Work from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences in 2015. She has served as a clinician for ten years in community mental health and special education.

Week 4 – May 7 – Adversity and Resilience – What Makes, Breaks, Holds and Heals

If adversity constitutes the hard things that we go through, resiliency is the force which enables us to do the ā€œgoing throughā€. Resiliency is also the ability bounce back, and how much or how little resiliency we have will play a large role in how we react, respond, and recover to the adversities we face. While adversity cannot always be predicted or avoided, we can now learn and share best trauma-informed practices that create safety and promote resiliency for ourselves and those around us. Please join us for the last training of our Trauma and Resiliency series, Minding Our Mental, sponsored by the Children’s Institute and the Neighborhood Schools Initiative.

In this training you will:

  • Learn the critical role you and your classroom can play in improving outcomes for those who have experienced individual, community or environmental trauma.
  • Explore the relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and negative health and social outcomes.
  • Learn about The ACE’s Aware Campaign and the California Surgeon General’s goal of reducing ACEs and toxic stress by half in one generation.
  • Review strategies anyone can use to become personal ā€œbuffersā€ in times of adversity, increased stress and trauma.

Logistics Info:

Participants should feel free to attend any/all of the trainings. Those who register will be emailed the Zoom link to participate 24 hours in advance of the training. Post training a quick survey will be emailed to all participants.
