Advanced Reflective Supervision: Leveraging the Supervisory Relationship as a Buffer Against Workplace Stress and Staff Attrition

“A family, organization, or system of care cannot be expected to operate relationally without attending to the ‘reflective health’ of relationships at all levels of that system.” — Diane Reynolds, LMFT

These two half-day, advanced training sessions are designed for supervisors, managers, and leaders working with frontline staff serving adults, children, and families.

Prerequisites: Attendees will have previously attended one or more reflective supervision trainings and/or have provided reflective supervision for at least one year.

According the US Department of Labor, a record number of 4 million people monthly left their jobs in 2021. This ‘great resignation’ has had unparalleled impacts and prompted consternation across the country. Trauma-informed, equity-centered, resilience-focused Reflective Supervision offers a pathway to having ‘horizontal conversations in the context of a vertical relationship’ and is uniquely positioned to serve as a protective factor against workplace stress. Reflective Supervision provides supervisors with an approach to engage in person-centered conversations that value staff well-being and the work. This advanced level Reflective Supervision training provides attendees with two highly interactive, engaged half-day sessions that center current issues of workplace stress and balancing productivity demands as a supervisor with the need to remember our shared humanity.

Reflective Practice Training

Diane Reynolds, LMFT

Diane Reynolds, LMFT, CA Center-endorsed IFECMHS and RPF II, is a program developer and trainer in Mindful Parenting Groups and Reflective Practice/Supervision. She has spent the past 25 years introducing parents, providers, schools, and organizations to a mindful and reflective approach to care. Ms. Reynolds has authored several publications. Ms. Reynolds previously served as Executive Director of Center for Reflective Communities and launched Reflective Praxis Consulting in 2017 to support demand for professional development, organizational consultation, and transformational coaching in the burgeoning field of reflective practice and supervision. Ms. Reynolds currently supports (now virtual) home visitation staff for Los Angeles County DHS, DPH, and DPSS through reflective practice training and ongoing consultation. Additionally, Diane is a member of the Reflective Supervision Collaborative, where she is co-developing the first scalable, online reflective supervision mentor curriculum and training for multi-disciplinary providers in the field of infant early childhood mental health.

As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify 3-4 individual and organizational risks and protective factors against workplace stress
  • Name 3 key features of employee engagement and plan 1-2 action steps to improve staff engagement and promote well-being
  • Describe ‘Holding the Feeling and Holding the Line,’ and assess supervisor strengths and challenges in balancing productivity demands and remembering our shared humanity
  • Describe Critical Self-Reflection and its essential role in trauma-informed, equity-centered, resilience-focused reflective supervision and leadership
  • Develop and demonstrate at least 3-4 specific, intentional reflective questions to unleash wisdom, generate collaborative strategies, and deepen staff reflective capacity
  • Explore 3-4 somatic activities to support mindful self-regulation and staff well-being in the workplace

Continuing Education Credits: up to 6 credits available for PSY, MFT, and LCSW’s

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY:

By registering for this training the agency is liable for the registration fee, which is refundable up to April 18, 2022 @ 9am minus the ~6% Eventbrite charge.  Registration is transferable prior to the start of the training.  Once the training begins, fees are non-refundable/transferable and no partial refunds will be given.
