Virtual – Understanding and Managing Vicarious Trauma and Compassion Fatigue

About this event

CII's Virtual Understanding and Managing Vicarious Trauma - June 1-2, 2022 image

by Jess Bernal, MA, LMFT

Compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burn-out are realities for everyone across all helping professions. These realities greatly impact the wellness of service providers, especially those who support children and families exposed to varying levels of trauma and toxic stress. This training will take a deep dive into understanding these concepts while also learning to identify the physical, emotional, and behavioral signs of burnout. Participants will leave this training with hands-on tools to implement a realistic and sustainable self-care practice into their daily routine.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Objectives:

  1. Explain the differences between toxic stress and tolerable stress.
  2. Describe the relationship between compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma, and burnout.
  3. Identify at least 3 signs of emotional fatigue and burnout.
  4. List the 6 domains of self-care and identify applicable self-care strategies for each.
