CII’s service model is designed to address the “whole child” as well as the entire family, combining youth development programs, family support services, evidence-based clinical services, and early childhood programs. In 2011, with support from the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, the federal Social Innovation Fund and many other local funders, CII was able to double the number of children and families served in South Los Angeles.
Now we are poised to replicate our comprehensive service model by developing a state-of-the-art facility in Watts. The new campus will be designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, as part of a historic partnership that will help bring CII’s services to 5,000 children and families a year in South Los Angeles. Mr. Gehry will be contributing his design services to CII at no cost.
CII has been providing services in Watts through the Watts Civic Center since 2007, and has been offering in-home services in the area for much longer. We currently serve more than 3,000 children and family members in Watts and South Los Angeles, and more than 28,000 children and family members across Los Angeles County. Our current Watts Interim Site is now open at 1522 E. 102nd Street. And once completed, our new Watts campus will become a place of caring, hope, safety, and transformative change for children and families, and indeed for the community itself.
