Project FatherhoodSM

Project FatherhoodSMaddresses the problem of absentee fathers, a major issue affecting the healthy development of a growing number of children. Children's Institute has launched the Project FatherhoodSM Community Grants Program to fund small faith-based, grassroots, and community-based organizations to replicate Project FatherhoodSM as a part of the federal government's Responsible Fatherhood Initiative funded by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Family Assistance (OFA).

Project Fatherhood'sSM primary goals are for children to grow up safe and healthy, and to become productive adults. Studies have shown that without their fathers, children are five times more likely to be poor, two to three times more likely to use drugs, and more than twice as likely to be incarcerated.

The Project provides a unique support program at no cost to low-income, culturally diverse biological fathers; men in care-giving roles such as stepfathers; foster parents and relative (e.g., grandfathers) foster placement situations.
