Learning Community Series on Secondary Traumatic Stress: Trauma Stewardship with Laura van Dernoot Lipsky

March 14, 2012

Sometimes called secondary trauma or compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma refers to the accumulation of changes that take place within people & organizations as a result of exposure to another’s suffering.

Who should attend:
Mental health providers, social workers, administrators from public and private agencies, law enforcement, and policymakers

Participants will leave this workshop with fresh insight, practical skills and time-tested strategies for becoming stewards of their response to trauma exposure and establishing a sustainable practice of Trauma Stewardship in their own lives and organizations.

Featured Presenter:

Laura van Dernoot Lipsky, MSW
Author and Trainer on Vicarious Trauma

For two decades, Laura van Dernoot Lipsky has been working with trauma survivors. With her theory of Trauma Stewardship she combines the age-old wisdom of traditions with the most cutting-edge contemporary research, inviting those of us who have been exposed to trauma, whether directly or indirectly, to reinvent how we approach caring for others and ourselves. Laura continues her work with Trauma Stewardship, collaborating with others to develop sustainable work practices and maintaining a private counseling practice for individuals. She is also the founder and director of a Spanish-language school enrichment program that offers an environmental and social-justice curriculum.
