Domestic Violence, Gangs and the Systems Response

The conclusion of a three-part series, Building Community, Breaking the Cycle of Violence. This concluding segment explored the systems response to learned violence:

  • Law enforcement response
  • DCFS response
  • Emerging policy practices and potential for implementation in domestic violence
  • How systems work in the community to provide solutions
  • Implementing trauma-informed systems collaboration between DMH and DCFS

Speakers included:

  • Sgt. Curtis Woodle – Gang Department Liaison Supervisor, Detective Headquarters, Los Angeles Police Department. Sgt. Woodle is a member of the Domestic Violence Task Force of Los Angeles as well as the Girls & Gangs Standards for Gender Responsive Protocols Task Force.
  • Patti Culross, MD, MPH – Former Director, Injury & Violence Prevention Program, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health
  • Xiomara Flores-Holguin, MSW – Law Enforcement Liaison, Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. An Advisory Board member to the Better LA Project, Ms. Flores-Holguin helped to develop and implement MART (Multi-Agency Response Team), a team of child welfare and law enforcement agencies serving children at risk for violence via gang, narcotic or weapons
    activity.
  • Adriana E. Molina, LMFT – Director of Project ERIN, Children’s Institute, Inc., and member, Violence Prevention Coalition Steering Committee
