Honoring the LAPD’s Chief Beck

April 8, 2010

Each year, Children’s Institute recognizes strong leadership and service to children by selecting an individual to receive the CII Leadership Center Innovation Award. The agency brought together trustees, prominent civic leaders and other agency friends to honor newly appointed Los Angeles Chief of Police Charles Beck. His career at the Los Angeles Police Department spans the last three decades and includes such accomplishments as implementing the Safer Cities Initiative, bringing innovative change to the Detective Bureau, and working to improve the conditions for LA’s homeless community.

Specific to CII, Chief Beck was instrumental in the start-up of the agency’s Project ERIN, an emergency response program in which CII partners with the LAPD to help adult victims of domestic violence and their children. Trustee Christina Caruso presented the award to the Chief on behalf of the agency and the event sponsor, the Caruso Family Foundation.
