About the Event
DINOSAUR CHILD EMOTION, SOCIAL SKILLS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING TRAINING FOR CHILDREN
This 3-day workshop will present in depth the child training program designed by Dr. Webster-Stratton to promote children’s non aggressive ways to solve common conflicts, appropriate classroom behaviors, and positive social skills with other children and adults. Content of this training program includes: how to teach children to understand feelings, problem-solve, regulate emotions, learn how to be friendly and how to talk with friends, and how to do their best in school. The intervention program is appropriate for use by clinicians/therapists with small groups of children with behavior problems (preschool through grade 3), either in mental health settings or in schools as “pull out” sessions.

Participants Will Learn to:

  • Apply Dina Dinosaur interventions to increase child emotional, social and academic competencies and reduce aggressive and noncompliant behaviors.
  • Apply Dina Dinosaur interventions (turn-taking, waiting, asking, sharing, helping and complimenting) to strengthen children’s social skills and to teach appropriate play skills
  • Apply Dina Dinosaur interventions (effective problem-solving steps and effective anger management strategies) to promote children’s use of self-control strategies.
  • Apply Dina Dinosaur interventions (labeling feelings, recognizing the differing views of oneself and others, and enhancing perspective-taking) to increase emotional awareness.
  • Apply Dina Dinosaur interventions (self-soothing, time out) to reduce defiance, aggressive behavior, and related conduct problems such as noncompliance, peer aggression and rejection, bullying, stealing and lying.
  • Apply Dina Dinosaur interventions to decrease children’s negative cognitive attributions and to employ conflict management approaches.
  • Lead the Dina Dinosaur group, showing the vignettes from the DVDs & asking questions
  • Practice using the Dina Dinosaur life-size puppets
  • Role play both group leaders and children in order to become familiar with the IY group lessons
  • Practice the skills of ignoring, coaching, praise and incentives for behavior management
