About the Event:
Child‐Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is an evidence‐based treatment model for children birth to five who have experienced traumatic events and/or experiencing attachment and behavioral problems. Treatment focuses on strengthening the parent child relationship by use of techniques that foster adaptive interactions to allow child and parent to weather the impact of trauma.

At the end of the two day learning session, participants will be able to:
• Describe the concept of ghosts in the nursery
• Describe at least three ways in which trauma can affect young children’s development
• Describe the concept of angels in the nursery
• Name at least four CPP treatment goals/objectives
• Name at last three core competencies of CPP
• Name at least two domains that therapists typically assess during a CPP assessment
• Name at least three of the six strands of CPP fidelity
• Name the three phases of CPP treatment
• Describe the components of the CPP triangle
• Describe the concept of ports of entry
• Understand how assessment and engagement phase support ongoing treatment of CPP case.
• Practice 3 components of the CPP Trauma Triangle (3 legged stool).
• Identify 2 important steps when working with very young children in CPP.
• Identify how your CPP training will continue to impact your practice.

Featured Presenter
Maricella Mendez-Sherwin, Ph.D.

Dr. Mendez-Sherwin is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has worked for over 21 years with children, adolescents and adult populations. During the last 15 years she has specialized in working with young children birth to five and families who have experienced trauma. She is a National Trainer in Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) with a training endorsement from the developers of the CPP model at UCSF as well as the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). She has trained over 395 clinicians from community mental health agencies in the Los Angeles area in the CPP clinical treatment model providing ongoing supervision, training and clinical consultation.

Open to participants of CPP Cohort XI and other pre‐paid CII CPP Cohorts
