Responding to Domestic Violence: CII’s Integrated Wellness Approach to Group Treatment for Adult Victims and Their Children

October 3, 2014

This 6 hour training will provide participants with an overview of CII’s “Integrated Wellness” Domestic Violence (DV) Group Treatment Model. This model recognizes that traumatic experience is ‘held’ in the body and the importance of using integrative approaches that target reduction of post-traumatic stress symptoms and improvement of family functioning and parenting. The model addresses treatment of the domains of complex trauma, for children and adults who have experienced prolonged exposure to interpersonal violence. An overview of hands-on interventions, experiential exercises, and innovative wellness tools to use in working with children and adult victims will be offered. Participants will learn to integrate mindfulness, breathing, yoga, and movement based interventions with trauma treatment for DV in developmentally diverse group settings (i.e. for young children, school age children, adolescents, and adults). Issues related to culture, immigration, community violence, and multigenerational trauma will be discussed.

Who should attend:
Mental health providers working in the field of Domestic Violence, social workers, administrators from public and private agencies, community members, service providers, caregivers, and all others with a special interest in working with children.
